Nov. 7-8 Saturday-Sunday 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Would you like to make a handwoven garment but are not sure of your sewing and fitting skills? This fast-paced two-day workshop will improve your confidence to cut into and sew your precious handwoven yardage! During the workshop, fiber artist/ production weaver Sandy Cahill will present a clever seaming method and several edge finishing techniques that result in a reversible vest. While learning these techniques, you will make detailed samples in class for future reference. Also, designer/patternmaker Phyllis Carlyle will help you achieve a custom fitted vest pattern that conforms to YOUR body. From her wealth of knowledge, Phyllis will present many sewing and pattern work techniques. Workshop students will receive a 15-page comprehensive handout including handwoven fabric, detailed instructions, gridded pattern material, and a list of resources. Your take-home book will include pockets for the samples you create in the class to be used for future reference.

Class Supply List:

  • Sewing machine with a 3-step zig zag stitch
  • Serger if you have one (two sergers will be provided by instructors for student use)
  • Scissors, rotary cutter & mat, sewing machine needles and power cords, straight pins, tape measure, seam guide, thread, tailor's chalk
  • Mechanical pencil with eraser, note taking paper
  • 2 yards 45" wide commercial fabric that mimics the properties of hand-woven fabric (used to make sample vest).
  • PARKING: The parking garage is located at 927 New Hampshire Street. Top level parking is free. Level 2 parking is $2.00 to park 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Street level and basement level parking is limited to 2 hours. Pay stations are located at each stairwell on the street level. Sunday parking is free downtown.
